Tulane Health System is an acclaimed teaching and research medical system serving the greater New Orleans area. Tulane Health System includes Tulane Medical Center, Tulane Lakeside Hospital, Lakeview Regional Medical Center and more than 25 clinics throughout the community.
Tulane was founded in 1834 by seven brave physicians who sought to form a medical school in New Orleans that would teach others how to care for patients in the midst of an epidemic of cholera and yellow fever. They made history through their service to their patients and the learners under their wings. From its humble beginnings in a church schoolroom, Tulane has emerged as a major academic center in the south by adhering to the aspirations of our founders.
Simply put, we are in the business of caring for others and for defining the practice of medicine along the way. We offer unmatched opportunities to registered nurses looking for a rewarding career, regardless of your area of focus and the type of job you desire.
StaRN stands for Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses. The StaRN Program is perfect if you are a recent nursing school graduate. StaRN provides a pathway for a new RN to transition into the practice with a strong core of nursing fundamentals and critical thinking skills. We invite new graduates to apply for a unique opportunity to receive didactic and clinical training in almost all areas of nursing. This program will allow you to obtain experience through an intensive internship program and then transition to staff roles. All who successfully complete the StaRN program will transition into full-time roles at the hospital & department they are selected for during the initial interview process. The program is designed for MedSurg, Telemetry, Step Down Care, ICU, ER and Perioperative OR.
This is an intensive 13-week program. The first six to seven weeks include a combination of didactic education, simulation lab and skills training. The remaining weeks are spent in preceptorship at the sponsoring facility working with a clinical preceptor. All learners are required to be present and on-time each day. There is a significant amount of instruction provided each day. The material builds upon itself each week. There are no make-ups in StaRN. All learners are expected to come to class daily prepared with laptop and stethoscope, dressed appropriately, and with a professional, engaged, and courteous attitude at all times.
