The HCA Healthcare Executive Residency Program is an on-ramp to executive leadership within America's leader in patient-centered, cost-effective, expert health care. The Program will provide 20-25 exceptional MHA, MHS and MBA graduates from select universities a paid full-time position and an immersive development experience on the path toward a Chief Operating Officer (COO), Service Line VP, or equivalent role for an HCA affiliated care organization.
The cohort will experience full-time executive development including group- and self-study learning from senior HCA Healthcare executives and industry experts. Each individual will receive rotational exposure to key healthcare business functions, and a unique preceptorship from an HCA executive leader. At the end of the one year residency, a determination will be made regarding entrance into a full time healthcare leadership role with one of HCA’s business units.
Assistant Administrator or equivalent leadership role.
Individuals who advance to full-time healthcare leadership role progress into a year of continued learning via ongoing preceptorship, formal course work, virtual and in-person learning, and on-the-job projects to continue the executive development pathway.

"As a resident, I was able to cultivate relationships throughout my division that were integral to my success.”
Assistant Administrator at Swedish Medical Center (Colorado)
As a recent graduate of the Executive Residency Program (ERP), I know firsthand the tremendous value in this program. The program provided a positive mentoring environment that allowed me to learn and grow as a leader. As a resident, I was able to participate in hands-on learning through robust shadowing opportunities and targeted project work. These projects were specifically geared towards gaining leadership experience and driving organizational excellence. While each residency is unique, the ERP pinpoints and develops a core grouping of competencies that are invaluable for any future healthcare leader. I was able to create a customized development plan to suit my personal growth needs and career aspirations.
Relationships are core to the success and advancement of leaders at any stage in their healthcare career. With the ERP’s guided rotations, residents are able to make strong connections within their divisions and hospitals. As a resident, I was able to cultivate relationships throughout my division that were integral to my success. With numerous touch points including monthly meetings, quarterly calls, and in-person trainings, HCA residents form a community with residents from across the nation to share best practices and crucial lessons learned. Leveraging the size of HCA in this fashion allows residents to become stronger and more effective professionals.
I believe HCA has created the gold standard for Administrative Residency through this program. Residents like myself are able to benefit from being part of a large organization that values and invests heavily in the development of its young leaders. The exposure you get during the ERP program is invaluable for the growth of your career. Any aspiring leader serious about working in healthcare should consider joining HCA and taking part in the ERP. The tools and development you receive in this program will position you well for early success in your career and the relationships you make will stay with you for the rest of your life.
