Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN)

The StaRN program provides new graduates the opportunity to obtain acute care nursing experience through an intensive 12-17 week paid internship.

Learners will receive the following as part of the StaRN Program:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) Dysrhythmia Interpretation
  • TeamSTEPPS
  • Meditech Training and Validation
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • 5 Days of High-Fidelity Simulation
  • Skills practice with the hospital equipment
  • Customized Coaching/Onboarding for the Clinical Preceptorship
  • Benefit eligible after successful completion of the program

Program acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full time commitment to the hospital.

Here's how it works:

Classroom, Skills Training and Self - Study

Combines lecture, hands-on skills training, home study and facility specific training by facility subject matter experts.

Simulation Training

The state-of-the-art simulation training provides hands-on experience to reinforce critical thinking and prioritization skills.

Clinical Preceptorship

Conducted at the hospital, each new graduate is assigned to a preceptor to train and acclimate the resident to their new role as a Registered Nurse.

Professional Development

Residents will be paired with a trained mentor for integration and socialization into the culture of professional nursing, attend monthly seminars and complete an evidenced-based poster presentation.
