Our nurses make a positive impact not only through the care they give, but through the direct feedback they get from their patients. Often, they are the first to hear of any potential opportunities we have to improve on best practices across all domains of nursing performance.

Since 2018, HCA Healthcare has plans to invest up to $300 million over three years toward programs that support our colleagues’ career development, their families and lives. Through these programs, including Vital Voices, we encourage nurses to share their voice. And, we gather those insights into data that encourages continuous improvement at our locations, and helps us change how healthcare is delivered everywhere.

At the front lines caring for patients, they are uniquely positioned to provide insights and feedback that will make the biggest positive impact on patient care. That’s why each of our facilities has its own Professional Practice Council (PPC).

Through their facility PPC, nurses at every stage of their career can share best practices and collaborate on topics related to patient outcomes, nursing quality and clinical practice standards, issues, policies and procedures. Their voices help guide powerful change; by listening we can provide them with the tools they need to provide the best-quality care.

Leader in Nursing Technologies

We are committed to investing in the latest technology and creating consistency in the care environment—enabling nurses to spend more time bedside with the patient.

Our Orbit system provides nurse leaders a resource to electronically document patient feedback. This feedback can be used to improve the care experience for our patients as well as recognize and celebrate individual team members for exceptional care.
Our Vitals Now system monitors vital signs, automatically taking vitals and entering results into the electronic health record. Reducing manual charting enhances both patient safety and efficiencies for the nursing care team.

Our iMobile app supplies a secure mobile communication platform giving caregivers across a care facility the ability to send secured messages, initiate phone calls, view a list of hospital and provider contacts and send broadcasts to the patient care team.

Our HCA Inspire app was created exclusively for nurses, based their experiences and insights. It allows nurses to connect with each other easily, provides quick access to tools and advice, encourages nurses to recognize excellence, and enables them to chart professional growth, connect with mentors and explore the many nursing career paths in our enterprise.

4. Leveraging our Scale

HCA Nurse Residency Program

Our scale allows us to build shared services that improve and support nursing functions. One of those services is the HCA Nurse Residency program, designed to support graduate nurses during their transition into the role of a professional nurse and reduce first year nursing turnover. Through HCA Nurse Residency and companion toolkit, graduate nurses will experience the structure and support that will help registered nurses to thrive and grow within our hospitals and care delivery settings.

Centers for Clinical Advancement

HCA Healthcare’s advanced simulation centers throughout the US help nurses and other clinicians feel confident and competent in various patient care situations by offering training on best practices and sharing expertise from across the organization. These centers enable colleagues to engage in real-time sessions that simulate high-risk situations, using mannequins to assess patients and develop treatment plans. Simulated situations range from cardio pulmonary emergencies to NICU patient care.
