More about our STARTECH Program:

No previous experience required! 

  • Paid 5-week comprehensive program
  • Continued employment after training

Training Timeline:

  • Attend 3 weeks of training
    • Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
  • 2 weeks of clinical orientation
    • 7pm - 7am 
  • Upon completion of your training, you must be available to work three 12 hour shifts per week with rotating weekends and holidays. 


  • Deliver high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living
  • Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT’s skills/training and the needs of the Department
  • Assist the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment 
  • Comply with all hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel


What is the program comprised of?

The program is comprised of a combination of didactic training, skills training, and clinical preceptorship at the sponsoring facility. The patient care technician is not only oriented to the facility in which he or she will be working, but is better prepared for standard patient care assignments in an acute care setting upon successful completion of the program.

What is the program content?

The StarTech Program is based upon the standards established by the State Boards of Nursing for CNAs. Many of the division and/or facility specific training initiatives will be incorporated into the curriculum as well. Learners will be BLS and CPI certified. Participants will also be introduced and trained on the facility Electronic Health Record.

Is there a cost to attend this program?

There is no cost at all to attend this program. This is a unique and comprehensive training opportunity for candidates that are hired into our hospitals. All selected learners will be hired into a position within a facility and trained to perform the patient care technician duties using the StarTech PCT Program.

How long does the program last?

This is a five‐week (5) program including the clinical preceptorship. The first three (3) weeks includes a combination of didactic education and skills training. The remaining two (2) weeks at the sponsoring facility working with a hospital RN preceptor and the PCT lead.

Are Patient Care Technician’s paid during the training?

Yes. During the program, Participants are paid an hourly wage.

What are the expectations of the Learners during the StarTech program?

All Learners are required to attend every didactic and facility day in addition to scheduled days in preceptorship. Learners are expected to come to class, dressed in the hospital colored scrub attire with a professional, engaged and courteous attitude at all times.

What is the schedule of the StarTech program?

The schedule may vary slightly depending on the facility request, timing, and resource demands. Typically, the program includes three weeks of classes/skills training (Monday – Friday 8am ‐5pm). During the two‐week clinical preceptorship, the PCT will typically work 8 – 12 hour shifts depending on the hiring manager.

Where will the training be conducted?

The training will be held at the agreed upon facility or market location.

Do I need any previous healthcare experience to attend?
