The team at Largo Medical Center is proud to celebrate a 40 year milestone caring for our community! Our latest expansion is within the walls of the Transplant Institute of Florida. The Transplant Institute of Florida (TIF) at Largo Medical Center was the first transplant program in Pinellas County when it opened in 2015. Since its inception, the program has assisted in increasing local public organ donation awareness and education, reducing wait times for patients on multiple wait lists, and shortening travel times for transplant candidates in our greater Pinellas County area and beyond. Initially specializing in adult kidney transplants, the Transplant Institute of Florida at Largo Medical Center expanded its program in 2016 to include specialized liver transplant services and will be adding heart transplants to its services in 2019.
Start your nursing career with a solid foundation and specialty training in acute care! The StaRN program is a paid Nurse Residency Program featuring didactic and clinical training. It allows new registered nurse graduates to obtain acute care nursing experience through intensive training and clinical preceptorship. At the completion of the StaRN program, our trained nurses transfer to the hospital for their unit orientation in their new full-time RN career!
Largo Medical Center is designated as a Statutory Teaching Hospital by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). This means we provide clinical education and training to current and future doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, in addition to delivering medical care to patients. Through our affiliations and partnerships with multiple institutions, we are offering our students and physicians an excellent educational experience.
Colleagues benefit from teaching hospitals like Largo Medical Center because the academic environment encourages physicians to seek innovative solutions to patients' problems. Attending physicians must stay on top of the latest medical developments in order to teach medical students, residents, student nurses and allied health professionals. Teaching hospitals encourage active collaboration among all members of the care team.
