FAQ:

Can I apply if I don’t have my degree or RN license yet?
Absolutely! You need your nursing degree by the cohort start date and your passing NCLEX results by the training start. You will also need your RN license with the state of Colorado or with a compact eligible state before you can begin clinical care.

How do I know which unit/facility I will be placed?
You'll discuss your unit and facility preferences with a recruiter before interviewing and you’d know where you have the potential to be placed before you’re offered a slot in the residency.

How does the two-year commitment work?
The two-year financial commitment begins upon successful completion of the StaRN training (10-12 weeks). The two-year commitment is for full time employment to the facility and we require you remain on the unit you start on for at least one year before transferring to another unit within the same facility. You are still eligible for raises through the two years and you are permitted to switch from nights to days or days to nights if there is an opening on your unit.

What is the HCA Nurse Residency and is that different from the StaRN training?
The HCA Nurse Residency is required for all incoming new graduate nurses during the first year. New graduates complete the StaRN training and move into the HCA Nurse Residency for the remainder of their first year. The HCA Nurse Residency offers mentorship support for new nurses, monthly seminars, and an evidence-based capstone project. Exceptional evidence-based findings in the capstone project will be recognized by the organization and possibly implemented throughout the company.

Can out-of-state candidates apply?
Yes. StaRN is a great option for out-of-state nurse graduates because it transitions you to our health system and processes in addition to transitioning you into a nursing role in the hospital setting. You will also get the opportunity to build friendships with other graduate nurses. Out of state applicants must be open to traveling to the Denver area for interviews to be considered for certain positions.

What does the StaRN training schedule look like?
The program comprises of clinical orientation, Meditech training, certification, e-learning, and high-fidelity simulation. There is also time built in to the program that takes place at the assigned facility and unity with your preceptor.

How much does this position pay?
The recruiter will discuss pay with all eligible candidates.

Will I be able to renew my BLS during the training?
BLS is not offered during the 10-12 week training and it is the responsibly of the nurse to keep your BLS from the American Heart Association current. If your BLS lapses during the 10-12 training and you do not renew it, we will not be able to transfer you onto the unit on time
