Program Overview

The Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 pharmacy residency program builds on PGY1 residency outcomes to prepare pharmacists to assume high level leadership, management, and supervisory responsibilities. The HSPAL Residency is a comprehensive program that emphasizes the development of leadership and management abilities, with the goal of fostering growth and learning in future pharmacy leaders. After a month-long orientation to the department, the resident begins a series of concentrated and longitudinal learning activities designed to meet the goals and objectives of the HSPAL residency program. The resident will interact with leaders from 11 hospitals across the health system, as well as division and corporate leadership. The program aims to develop the resident into a competent and confident professional in core areas of pharmacy leadership excellence.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Completion of PGY-1 accredited pharmacy residency program
  • Applicants are accepted through the ASHP Matching Program and PhORCAS only
    • Personal statement/letter of intent
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Official pharmacy school transcripts
    • Three letters of reference
  • Acquire Kansas pharmacist licensure within 90 days of residency start

The HealthTrust MidAmerica Pharmacy leadership team serves HCA hospitals in 2 markets: the Kansas City area and Louisiana. We serve the directors of pharmacy and other leaders at each facility in the oversight of all clinical, operational, financial, and regulatory functions. The resident will have the exciting opportunity to interact closely with 7 hospitals in the KC metro area and 4 hospitals in Louisiana, in partnership with interdisciplinary HealthTrust and HCA Division Leadership. The resident will be a vital member of a leadership team that impacts more than 350 pharmacy employees and thousands of patients.
