During the year-long program, residents will participate in rotations, working besides our best leaders in several key areas. Our rigorous program strives to provide residents with hands-on experience, through exposure to a variety of environments and experts that will prepare them to succeed in a leadership role.
HCA Healthcare’s Executive Residency Program uniquely provides all residents with a personalized support network during their residency. In addition to the support of peers, leaders and executives, residents have a dedicated, experienced executive leader to guide them through the rotations and experiences and support them in their development.
The program cohort will participate in group and self-study learning from senior HCA Healthcare executives and industry experts through both virtual and in-person learning sessions. Each residents will complete a rotation across hospitals, markets, service lines of business, and corporate offices.
We assess performance at the end of the one-year residency. Only those with the highest performance will move on to a second year, with an offer for a full time leadership role with a HCA Healthcare business unit.
Our second year residents will receive leadership development with a cohort-based program called Early Career Collaborative.
The residents participate in core and customizable rotations within various facilities/centers/departments/physician practices and service lines of business. Varied rotations inform greater insight into operational strategic decision making and problem solving across the enterprise. Rotations also create opportunities to build relationships with executives, leaders, and staff. The duration of each rotation will vary from a few hours to multiple weeks. Example rotations include Cancer Clinics, Quality and Regulatory Departments, Physician Relations, and Strategy and Innovation.
In addition to rotations, residents will be accountable for completing various projects and experiences to apply their learning.

I chose to work for HCA Healthcare because of the structure, trajectory, and focus on mentorship included in the Executive Residency Program. Having the opportunity to work directly and be mentored by my facility’s leadership team has given me “boots-on-the-ground” learnings on how to be the first choice for our community’s patients, providers, and staff.
