Position Summary

The Director of Critical Care Services is responsible for overall planning, direction, and administration including budgeting considerations coordination and supervision of critically ill patients in the organization. This person implements the vision, mission, philosophy, evidence based practice, and standards in assigned areas. He/She encourages leadership development, policy development, and decision-making among staff. The director is also expected to evaluate quality and appropriateness of healthcare delivery in assigned areas. In addition the director accepts responsibility and accountability for services provided. In addition the director is responsible for assessing and developing  new programs that would enhance patient safety, quality care and family involvement.

Shift: Days

Our exclusive and specialty medical services in nine hospitals and six surgical centers throughout two states, provides a full spectrum of primary, acute, tertiary and chronic care for our patients. Our specialized care areas focus on advancing the science of medicine while providing high quality, life-saving technology and patient-focused care.

Facility Based Description

Regional Medical Center of San Jose is a 264 bed acute care hospital with a Level II Trauma Center. The hospital provides a host of technologically-advanced services including CardiovascularNeuroOrthopedic, Bariatric and General Surgery, Interventional Pulmonology and services for Women. Regional holds Joint Commission advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Get with the Guidelines- Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. It is a certified Chest Pain Center, county-designated STEMI (heart attack) Receiving Center, designated Lung Cancer Screening Center, a member of Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ECMO) and is certified by The Joint Commission in Sepsis care.

Qualifications

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum:  Current CA RN License, BLS, ACLS

Preferred:   TNCC

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum:  At least 5 years experience in a acute care setting.

Preferred:   3-5 years managerial or supervisory experience.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum:  BSN or equivalent Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree (or achieved within 5 years).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, critical thinking ability, knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, and Emergency/Trauma/Critical Care.

Minimum:  Effective front line supervision, word processing/spreadsheet, time management, clinical proficiency, Title XXII, Quality Improvement

Preferred:   Completion of formal management training
