Job Summary

Registered nurse who demonstrates critical thinking skills and leadership within the department’s scope of services, and patient care delivery. Assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting with the management of human and physical resources to deliver affordable quality care. The Assistant Nurse Manager assesses the needs of the patient population and plans, implements, and evaluates assignments to address these needs. Assumes leadership and management of licensed and non-licensed staff in the absence of nurse manager. Manages staffing based on volume and needs of department. Assists with the evaluation of staff, developing performance improvement plans and resolving conflict. Disciplines staff as needed and in conjunction with department director. Has understanding of department budget basics. Is able to speak clearly of core measures, department specific policies and goals, and educational requirements of staff. Participates with department audits, chart reviews, special assignments, payroll, scheduling, and department specific initiatives. Is able to enforce processes and ensure they are done constantly and consistently and re-educate when needed. Assists with assignment of mentor to new staff and works with the preceptor to ensure successful orientation.
