POSITION SUMMARY:  The Endoscopic Surgical Technicians are individuals who function as members of the surgical team in the role of service line specialists. Endoscopic surgical technicians function in the role of endoscopic resource as well as Surgical Technicians when needed. The basic function of the Endoscopic Surgical Technician (EST) is to be present in the operating room suite to ensure endoscopic services are provided to the hospital in a quality and efficient manner that meets hospital policy requirements. The EST assists the operating room staff in preparing the operative suite for surgery by providing all requested equipment for the scheduled operative procedure. The EST ensures quality of care by cleaning, maintaining and reporting any deficiencies to the Endoscopic Specialist.

ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS:

• Patient and family support
• Patient safety-identification, fall prevention, skin and wound program
• Transports, positions and drapes patients for procedures
• Chain of Command
• Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner
• Sets up computer charting for physicians daily

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current BLS at hire. Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:  Two years of experience as a surgical technologist preferred.
