Position Description:
Oversees the efficient operation of the Respiratory/Pulmonary Department. Responsible for planning and organizing therapeutic and pulmonary procedures performed on patients (acute and chronic) ranging from “newborn” to geriatric population. Works with the designated Medical Director of Cardiopulmonary Services to develop respiratory care standards and ensure diagnostic and therapeutic programs comply with all Hospital and regulatory agency standards and procedures. Regularly reviews and revises as necessary all departmental policies and procedures pertaining to the service.  Coordinates provision of Respiratory Care Services with other medical functions and serves as technical resource for Department personnel.
 
The Department Director assumes the role as a leader in planning, directing and managing the department and staff to assure quality service on a 24 hour basis. The Department Director is responsible for meeting JCAHO Standards, complying with corporate policy and procedures, for managing supplies and equipment on the unit, for promoting teamwork with physicians and all health care providers, for promoting internal and external customer satisfaction, and for appropriate resource management.

  • Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory care educational and training program of the equivalent thereof
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science required
  • Min. of 2 years in a Director role in Respiratory Care, diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and procedures, equipment use and regulations, as well as the ability to organize and direct activities of a large subordinate staff.
  • Have extensive knowledge of Quality Improvement / Joint Commission /CMS and CAP standards.
  • Current State of Florida license as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care Preferred
  • Current BLS
  • ACLS or ALS required, PALS and NRP
