Monitor Technician (Monitor Tech)

 

HCA Houston Healthcare West is a full-service 266 bed hospital that provides a range of health services. It is recognized as a Certified Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and, under an affiliation agreement with The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, brings to its community The Woman’s Hospital of Texas at West Houston, a three-story cardiac and critical care tower. The Sugar Land Cancer Center and the Sugar Land Diagnostic Center, departments with HCA Houston Healthcare West, are located on the Southwest Freeway at the Williams Trace and Sugar Lakes exit.

HCA Houston Healthcare West is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.

What you will do in this role:

  • Demonstrates accuracy in EKG rhythm interpretation.  As appropriate, monitors O2 saturations and blood pressure, understanding parameters when to call a nurse. 
  • Promotes quality patient care through prompt identification of acute changes/abnormalities in EKG morphology. Takes corrective action or escalates concerns to proper personnel.
  • Provides and accurately processes documents, quality data, and related centralized telemetry monitor (CTM) records.
  • Ensures all patient care equipment has had QC performed, as required.  Ensures that all telemetry boxes are in safe working order prior to use and documents findings accordingly.  Reports any malfunctions to management and calls for servicing of equipment to biomed, if needed.
  • Reports all near misses and deviations from practice through the variance reporting system in Meditech to improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities.  Contributes to meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality and safety.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
  • EKG monitoring Certification, CCT, ET, CMT-BC, NRCEKG, ECH-BC, NTT through the National Telemetry Association (3 month grace period to obtain) 
  • 1 year applicable experience preferred
