Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Medical City Lewisville
 
Position Summary:
Associate performs a variety of duties in preparing patient for scans of particular organs to furnish diagnostic information.  He/she will operate Nuclear Medicine equipment to produce images and measures concentration of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas.  Practices proper radiation safety techniques on all exams performed.  Associate maintains safe environment for patients, visitors, staff and co-workers. Supports and helps achieve the departmental and hospital goals.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Checks patient chart for needed exam and tests.
  • Prepares patient for exam – administers pre-medication, radioactive isotopes and transfers patient to examining table.
  • Scans the patient – making proper setting on gamma camera.
  • Reads or surveys the amount of radiation given off by certain radioactive material shipped to department.
  • Records every radioactive isotope for inspection by the Bureau of Radiation Control.
  • Records information on patient history and examination.
  • Sets up equipment for scan and changes collimators.
  • Assist in administering I-131 therapy.
  • Maintains I-131 therapy schedule, records scan and test results.
  • Orders radioactive isotopes in timely manner.
  • Files patient records and maintains proper charge codes, exams.
  • Participates in the departmental quality assurance program.
  • Ensures that safety precautions are followed at all times.
  • Assists physicians’ offices, outpatients and hospital associates promptly and courteously.
  • Provides excellent customer service to our patients, visitors, staff and co-workers.
  • Positively identifies the correct patient prior to the performance of any procedure utilizing 2 patient identifiers.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-services.
  • Completes educational activities as assigned.
  • Follows proper procedure for infection control.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by the AVP/Director & Imaging Manager.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care
  • Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of patients.
  • Efficiently operates PACS.
  • Assists physician’s offices, outpatients and hospital associates promptly and courteously.
  • Positively identifies the correct patient prior to the performance of CT procedure utilizing 2 patient identifiers.
  • Participates in ICANL Accreditation activities and adheres to guidelines and requirements as indicated.

Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration:   
  • Must be registered/eligible by Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT (N). If associate does not hold advanced certification, associate shall obtain within 6 months of hire/promotion or completion of training program.
  • Must possess Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) from TDH.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
 
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent.
 
Experience:
  • Previous experience and demonstrated ability to use computer.
  • Must be well trained to handle different ages and risk factors when performing diagnostic procedures.
 
Specific Requirements:
  • Must be able to take call restricted to a 30-minute response time and work on Hospital Holiday.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Integrity to work with confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle a high activity environment
  • Ability to deal with patients during emotional periods.
  • Ability to work with others to ensure quality patient care.
