Role Summary: Provides leadership, which facilitates the delivery of air medical and ground transport care for the comfort and well being of patients. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, and document care and teaching of patients. Performs time critical advanced life support patient care and management.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Required Educations: Effective 3/1/18 Bachelor of Science in Nursing OR enroll in a BSN or advanced degree program within 6 months AND obtain a BSN within 4 years of hire date into RN position. Previous signed BSN commitment letter OR grandfathering will be accepted between departments and Mission Health entities. Exemptions may be approved with CNO System Council approval.
Preferred Education: Master’s in Nursing
Required License/
Certifications: Must have and maintain current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact) license may apply, licensee should confirm with NCBON.
National Nursing Certification in area of specialty
Certificate: BLS Healthcare Provider; ACLS; PALS or PEPP or ENPC; ITLS or PHTLS or TNCC
Must have a valid NC driver’s license or procure one within 30 days of employment (if out-of-state commuter must have valid driver’s license in the documented state of residence) Must have at least two years of satisfactory driving experience and possess ability to meet the established insurance guidelines for Mission Health System.
Preferred License/
Certifications: CFRN, CCRN, CEN, CPRN, North Carolina Paramedic, South Carolina Paramedic, Nationally Registry Paramedic, CCEMT-P, PNCCT.
Certificate: NRP
Required Experience: Minimum FIVE years full time Emergency Room and/or Critical Care.
Preferred Experience: Five years full time Emergency Room AND Critical Care.
Previous supervisory, public speaking and teaching experience.
Working Conditions: The air medical setting provides for a variety of working conditions; from transport of the ill and injured from referral hospital ICU or emergency departments, O.R. suite or other clinical areas, to scene response to the accident site. Often, patient care must be performed outdoors which subjects the flight nurse to various environmental extremes. The flight nurse must be able to perform his/her duties in low light or near dark conditions. The flight nurse must be able to provide care in the unique air medical environment: vibration, changes in G-force, loud noise and changes in altitude. In addition, the flight nurse may be required to walk great distances over uneven terrain to access patients in remote areas, and be able to provide care as a team while carrying a 250 lb. patient back to the aircraft.
OSHA Category: High potential for exposure to blood or body fluids.
Patient Care Group: Critically ill and injured patients of any age group.
Weight: Weight limitations apply per department policy.
Hearing: Must be adequate for normal volume speech.
