The Henrico Doctors’ Hospital Respiratory Therapy Department provides patient care for all patient populations including adult, neonatal and pediatric. In addition, to being designated as a Level II trauma center, our staff covers all of the patient care areas including, general floors, surgical, cardiac, level III Neonatal, and pediatric ICU, ED, Labor & Delivery and outpatient testing (pulmonary function testing). The duties and responsibilities of the Certified Respiratory Therapist include, but are not limited to:

Administers floor and critical care therapy modalities. Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis and instrument QC. Responds to cardiopulmonary arrests, rapid responses and trauma activations. Maintains and processes equipment. Provides specialized service to the department.

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains Health Care Provider BLS and ACLS certifications
  2. Maintains state license requirements.
  3. Maintains NBRC credentials for Certified Respiratory Therapist
  4. Fulfills staff meeting, in-service, competency and on-going education requirements.
  5. Ensures safe and appropriate oxygen administrations through the Oxygen Therapist Driven Protocol.
  6. Performs non-invasive SpO2 monitoring through pulse oximetry via overnight studies, exercise, continuous and spot checks.
  7. Administers all therapy modalities to patients per physician orders.
  8. Performs airway clearance therapy, including VEST
  9. Performs basic operations on the Meditech system.
  10. Performs regular equipment rounds.

EDUCATION:

Required:

High School Graduate

Graduate of a COARC approved Certified Respiratory Therapy Program (CRT)

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred:

One year experience. Knowledge and experience in basic floor care, noninvasive and mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function

testing, bronchoscopy, capnography and oximetry equipment.

Current Virginia Licensed Respiratory Therapist

Maintain NBRC credentials for Certified Respiratory Therapist

Current Health Care Provider BLS

Current ACLS Certification

Preferred:

NBRC subspecialty credential - Adult Critical Care Specialty

CPFT or RPFT
