The Pharmacy Tech Lead Narcotics Specialist t is responsible for accurately performing advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. In addition, they are responsible for performing duties associated with controlled substance accountability, other specialized duties, and/or leadership roles as assigned by the pharmacy management team. Assist the Director of Pharmacy to meet the requirements of the medication diversion program. Identifies critical issues, prioritizes workload, and communicates to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner. Completes all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency. Complies with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements. Provides direction and training to other technicians and nursing as assigned. Accurately performs reviews and audits on controlled substance utilization/documentation, identifies trends, and reports findings to nursing and pharmacy directors for further action. Responsible for maintaining medication storage and security of controlled substances as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization. Accurately monitors controlled substance accountability and maintains recordkeeping for documentation/reports hospital-wide. Ensures that controlled substance medications are properly transported and accurately delivered to appropriate areas. Ensures that medication returns are consistently and timely restocked in the pharmacy. Assists with narcotic ordering/receiving and recordkeeping to ensure compliance with policy and regulations. Coordinates routine NarcStation/CII Safe audits and as-needed audits with the Director of Pharmacy. Narcotic Discrepancy Audits – Investigates discrepancies to determine validity and completes audit sheets and/or incidence reports as appropriate. Performs receiving and check-in of medication/supply orders as defined in policy and notifies the Pharmacy Inventory Manager/Buyer of any shortages, overages, or product damage. Performs the role of the Pharmacy Inventory Manager/Buyer when that person is not available or as assigned. Performs the role of Lead Automation Technician when that person is not available or as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred

LICENSE:

  • National Certification (CPhT) required
  • Active, licensed Pharmacy Technician, as per State requirements, in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy

 EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years of hospital experience
  • Supervisor experience preferred
