Position: Paramedic Supervisor
The Paramedic Supervisor has responsibility and accountability for the management of the ambulance service and assigned personnel. The Paramedic Supervisor works closely with the Director of Emergency Preparedness, ED Medical Director, the ED physician group, the Director of Emergency Preparedness and the ED Clinical Nurse Leaders.
Essential Position Functions : Management of Clinical Practice
Assumes responsibility for the development of personnel to meet patient care goals in a changing health care environment.
Participates in the development of and supports the implementation of Nursing/EMS philosophy, standards of care, risk management and patient and staff education.
Oversees operation of ambulance service including maintenance of vehicles, equipment, scheduling, licensure of personnel, documentation of events and training and other areas identified by the Director of EP.
Assists in the development and evaluation of operational and capital budgets which supports the goals of the hospital and assigned cost center(s).
Conducts performance appraisals within established timeframes and policy. Counsels employees appropriately and documents counseling sessions.
Plans and collaborates with the Director of EMS to maintain appropriate staffing.
Brings closure to issues/suggestions raised by patients or other disciplines to improve patient care. Leadership
Provides leadership to ensure that the standards and policies of the Hospital are translated into action on the nursing unit and field operations.
Establishes positive relationships with patient’s families, hospital departments, medical staff and the community. Assumes responsibility for the achievement of the EMS/ Nursing unit goals and actively participates with staff in the achievement of department goals which promote the Hospital’s mission.
Conducts and records regular staff and leadership meetings.
Acts as a role model by using positive and professional interpersonal skills. Professional Development
Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.
Maintains professional growth and development through conference attendance, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
Develops and strives to achieve annual and professional goals. Maintains ability to function as a clinical resource on unit.
Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and standards.
Meets annual competency and retraining requirements. Ensures staff meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
Assists in the development of an education plan that enables staff to meet re-certification requirements as outlined by the National Registry of EMTs and State of NH EMS.
Assists in monitoring and facilitating the unit based QA & I Program. Incorporates principles of CQI to improve patient outcomes, staff empowerment and lower operating costs.
Evaluates, investigates and initiates a plan of action related to patient complaints and incident reports. Human Dignity Expectations
