Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Lead Histotechnologist at our facility you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing. In this role:

·You will prepare tissues for microscopic examination by pathologists.

·You will prepare specimens by freezing and cutting tissue samples, mounting specimens on slides and staining or treating tissue with chemicals to reveal specific structural details under microscopic analysis.

·You will ensure the Histology department works with pathologists to ensure delivery of high-quality results.

·You will train Histology staff on procedures and ensure efficient processes are in place.

·You will create and main staffing schedules in accordance with hospital staffing targets and department requirements.

·You will perform annual reviews for Histology staff and provide feedback to staff on issues and problems.

·You will assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.

Qualifications:

·Registered as a Histology Technician (HLT/HT or equivalent) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

·Associate or Bachelor degree preferred; course work equivalent to allow for HT/HLT certification required.

·Minimum 2 years of histology experience required; experience may be obtained through completion of 1 year of an accredited training program in histology techniques and procedures.

·Knowledge of medical terminology, histochemistry, histology, and basic mathematics and skill at microtomy and embedding tissue required.

·Must have good verbal and written skills and good computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.

    ·Must possess the ability to supervise a team of Histologists and serve as a conduit for our pathologists to ensure high quality delivery of results.
