SCHEDULE: PRN/Per Diem

The Paramedic PRN administers patient care and related activities, services and/or procedures to promote the physical and emotional health and personal comfort needs for assigned patients. The Paramedic also assists in the receipt/admission of patients who present to the Emergency Department, completes documentation in a timely, proficient and complete manner and observes for any changes in the patient’s condition and report changes or concern to the primary RN or Charge nurse.

You will perform the following technical functions:

  • Monitor patients for arrhythmias, mount EKG strips, and report findings to licensed nurse assigned to patient.
  • Measure and record patient’s input and output.
  • Stock/check ED supplies and equipment.
  • Clean stretchers, closets, and cabinets as appropriate.
  • Transport cardiac monitored patients to Telemetry and step-down units.
  • Assist physicians with central line insertions, lumbar punctures, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, arterial lines, and suturing.
  • Answer EMS radios and phones (Only physicians can give orders to EMS crews.)

You may perform the following procedures:

  • Connect patient to oxygen and monitor.
  • Perform 12-lead EKG.
  • Perform defibrillation/cardioversion at the direction of MD
  • Performs ACLS functions in the ED including administering Code medications, defibrillation, external pacing and cardioversion
  • Insert External Jugular access
  • Insertion of Intraosseous access
  • Use of ultrasound guided insertion of peripheral IV
  • Collect laboratory specimens as ordered by MD
  • Obtain urine and sputum samples.
  • Initiate and discontinue peripheral intravenous catheters.
  • Perform CPR.
  • Perform finger stick glucose monitoring.
  • Insertion of NG/OG tube
  • Insertion of oral and nasopharyngeal airways
  • Application of Hare Traction
  • Assist MD with the reduction of dislocations
  • Set-up Arterial and CVP device
  • Application of soft restraints as ordered
  • Administration of medications as noted in competency check list and use CPOE and eMAR

 

Frankfort Regional Medical Center (FRMC) is a 173 bed, acute care facility, Level III Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, and Accredited Chest Pain Center. We primary serve the areas of Franklin, Anderson, Owen, Woodford, Shelby, and other surrounding counties.

Qualifications

  • Previous ER or comparable experience. 1 year of field experience as a certified EMT-Paramedic
  • BLS required upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic training course.
  • Must have and maintain a Kentucky Division of EMS EMT-Paramedic certification.
  • Must have and maintain ACLS certification.
  • PALS, PHTLS or BTLS certifications are preferred
