Introduction

As an Assistant Vice President of Development and Physician Relations with our Graduate Medical Education Team at HCA Healthcare you can be a part of an organization that is devoted to giving back! 

The AVP of Development and Physician Relations supports HCA’s Mission, Vision and Values, as well as demonstrates the company’s Code of Conduct in all duties. This leader provides support to hospital facilities operations management related to GME Faculty Physicians, along with enterprise-level leadership, direction and ongoing administration and management for all aspects of GME physician relationships.  The  AVP of Development and Physician Relations  provides leadership in all areas of physician relationships and development activities, including recruiting, negotiating, contracting, onboarding, renewing and more, and is responsible for the entire physician lifecycle.  Key focus areas include process management, standardization, improvement, issue resolution, communication, collaboration, customer service and relationship building. 

Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Supports enterprise-wide GME service line’s management of over 5,000 contracts from relationship to business case to draft phase to execution.
  • Develops the physician compensation strategy supporting 4,000+ independent physicians and over 150 HCA employed physicians.
  • Directs and improves the contract administration process and physician relationship experience.
  • Engages the GME Division leaders, recruiting teams, hospital leaders, and physician services and the physician or physician group to ensure contract terms meet business objectives.
  • Engages with HCA’s legal department in ALL divisions, working with hospital operations counsel and PSG’s general counsel on complex legal agreements
  • Cultivates relationships with FQHC partners and works on complex donation agreements that provide unique cost-cutting continuity clinic opportunities for key GME programs
  • Analyzes new and existing physician contracts including requested modifications to contract language, compensation models, compensation amounts, etc.
  • Supervises team of Directors and Administrators that support the GME contracting initiative company-wide.
  • Establishes and owns the GME relationship with key national physician employment groups such as Sound, Envision, Apollo, Team Health, Schumacher, etc.
  • Develops strategy to retain top residents with HCA
  • Implement handheld time tracking application and utilize legal, compliance and IT resources to establish an EDW exception reporting tool that compares hourly timesheets to contract and schedule

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • J.D. or a Master’s degree or higher is required (commensurate experience considered)
  • Ten or more years in senior-level positions with related experience and/or training.
  • Experience in the management of projects
  • Displays  strong customer focus and is results drive, shows strong initiative, innovation and motivation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • GME knowledge a plus
  • Previous legal experience and contract management experience strongly preferred
  • Previous negotiation experience strongly preferred
