Job Summary and Qualifications

The AVP of Performance Improvement SWAT Teams is responsible for successful implementation of the Performance Improvement projects. This position is critical in achieving targeted financial objectives in our facilities through process improvement, cost management, and productivity.The AVP will interface with group and division leadership to develop the overall performance improvement agenda and to execute on key performance improvement strategies.The AVP will conduct facility based PI engagements focused on traditional PI objectives, facility throughput, surgical services specific engagements, and other engagements as requested by Facility, Division, and Group Leadership Teams. This position will be directly accountable for the outcome of the large scale performance improvement engagements, including: tools, training, tracking, staffing, and achievement of improvement goals. The AVP will be responsible for leading the PI initiatives and supervising the Performance Improvement Directors and their site teams. This role is responsible to determine the SWAT team focus and composition to successfully execute performance improvement engagements. The AVP collaborates with others in the PI Organization to determine strategies, documentation, reporting and monitoring requirements of work performed, and identify best practices. This position needs to possess strategic vision, excellent communication skills, proven motivational capabilities, have an executive presence and a demonstrated track record of leading and motivating talent to delivering and attaining goals.

DUTIES include but are not limited to:

  • Works closely with PI Leadership, Group Executives, Corporate Senior VP’s, and Division leadership to identify and determine facility financial and business targets based on peer group analysis.
  • Adds measurable value to the organization by:
    • Directing multi-disciplinary teams to identify and implement sustainable changes that result in lower facility expenses and improved EBITDA.
    • Strategically plans and implements performance improvement projects across the HCA enterprise.
    • Analyzes service line and organizational structure to identify financial opportunities and makes recommendations to facility and division leadership on the how to implement the change.
  • In conjunction with PI leadership, develops long term strategy for efficient utilization of specialist and SWAT teams.
  • Provides leadership to facility based SWAT teams focused on OR Operations, Throughput and Traditional PI engagements.
  • Develops and maintains engagement resource composition, schedules and calendars.
  • Utilizes the “Rapid Design” methodology to jump-start performance improvement teams in developing new cost-savings and revenue enhancement ideas.
  • Works closely with Division leadership to identify and determine facility financial, process, and metric targets for engagements.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams and individuals to identify and implement sustainable changes that result in reduced process variation and improved outcomes, reduction in unnecessary expenses.
  • Partner with peer PI AVPs to develop and refine a proven PI methodology that is used to support performance improvement project teams in the field.
  • Collaborates with peer PI AVPs to create and maintain a toolkit for corporate and for process improvement facility team use for all phases of process improvement.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with facility leadership to drive toward performance improvement objectives by establishing expectations, discussing strategic and sensitive issues, removing barriers and escalation of issues.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with PI group/division leadership, division and facility leadership, Corporate Clinical Services Group, Supply Chain, and other pertinent entities.
  • Serves as a change agent for initiatives, analyzing organizational change implications and recommending methods for managing those changes within a PI engagement.
  • Tracks, monitors and reports engagement status and outcomes.
  • Leads and mentors a diverse workforce to enhance expertise, skills and measurable value.
  • Strategically plans and implements performance improvement projects across the organization.
  • Works with PI Leadership to adjust PI strategies to respond to changing business needs.
  • Drives business decisions through the use of analytics.
  • Develops a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Communicates timely and effectively in a matrix environment.
  • Escalates issues to group, division or PI leadership as necessary.
  • Attracts, develops, and retains talent across the organization to ensure succession plan.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.

EDUCATION & QUALFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 10+ years healthcare operations experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years management experience required.
  • Experience in organizational performance management and leading large-scale projects.
  • Experience with cost management systems preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal skills at the executive level and the ability to work within a matrix environment are a must.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - both written and verbal.
  • Travel required up to 80%.
