Job Summary and Qualifications

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Vice President of Assessment, HBP, is to identify opportunities, perform program assessments, assist in development activities, and provide oversight of potential and existing employed, joint ventures, and/or Professional Services Agreements with third party providers for all hospital-based services. The AVP also provides consultative services to Corporate, Divisions, and Facilities regarding operations, clinical, and financial performance of hospital-based service lines. This individual serves as an HBP representative for HCA leadership strategies and holds provider partners accountable to contracted terms and HCA standards.


  • Works effectively with Group Presidents, Group Vice Presidents, and Division Directors, serving as a liaison to hospital administration and Division leadership to meet the needs of provider partners and HCA.
  • Helps develop and drive strategic direction of HBP in conjunction with partner/vendor, division, and CEOs
  • Overall responsibility for the functions of the HBP services in the assigned divisions to ensure maximum utilization of resources and the efficient delivery of services
  • Interacts on a regular basis with each program medical director and Division CEO/CFO to ensure their HBP services and clinical operations are met
  • Works with division leadership to identify, recommend, and develop new patient care services for implementation (ex. RFP’s, FMV’s, etc.)
  • Analyzes hospital systems issues related to the partner/vendor program and provides and recommends operational plans for improvement.
  • Ensures development of Quality/PI programs in conjunction with HCA, JCAHO and other standards, to include facilitation of quarterly quality reviews, providing for problem resolution.
  • Promotes the development of strategies, which incorporate the standards of daily multidisciplinary collaborative rounds and physician-to-physician hand-offs.
  • Assists with audits and evaluations of compliance with clinical guidelines.
  • Serves as a resource for all hospital-based provider programs across the company.
  • Participates in partner/vendor program assessments and annual evaluations when requested.
  • Ensures programs adhere to the HCA “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
  • Ensures and maintains effective communications between all levels of personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with and knowledge of the company’s Code of Conduct by all subordinates to ensure an ethical work environment.
  • Performs program assessments, to include operational and clinical performance, then develops and implements action plans based on results.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: This position requires the following minimum requirements:
  • Knowledge of HCA operations, organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives
  • Knowledge of fiscal management techniques
  • Knowledge of health care administration systems
  • Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience in PI/Clinical Quality and structuring programs accordingly
  • Ability to use various computer systems and applications
  • Ability to work within team environments successfully
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise
  • Ability to travel extensively
  • Ability to complete complex engagements on time with desired results
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, and the public
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Ten years of experience in healthcare systems, consulting, and operations management at Director level or higher.
  • Effective working knowledge of Health Systems Management, Hospital Management, Healthcare Financial Management, third party reimbursement issues, patient flow and OR management.
  • Experience in Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine management required.
  • Physician practice management preferred.
  • ACHE MGMA certification desirable.
