Southern Hills Hospital is located in Southwest Las Vegas just off the I-215 and Durango/Sunset exit. The facility is an accredited 265-bed acute care hospital providing emergency and pediatric emergency services, a behavioral health (geriatric psychiatric) inpatient and outpatient program serving ages 50 and older, accredited Chest Pain Center, a Certified Primary Stroke Center, a dedicated orthopedic and spine unit, OB-GYN, Level II NICU, diagnostic imaging and surgical services.  Southern Hills Hospital was voted the Best Hospital in Las Vegas.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The objective of the Infection Prevention & Control Program is to minimize the probability of transmission of infection, thus providing a better and safer hospital for its patients and personnel. This position is responsible for integrating clinical findings, laboratory results and other diagnostic tests to determine the presence of infections utilizing the criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control. The Infection Preventionist promotes staff adherence with Infection Control and prevention processes and policies via education and training and ensures compliance with the hospital’s medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, policies and regulatory standards. Serves as a clinical resource to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

STATUS/SCHEDULE:  Full Time Days

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing (BSN preferred) OR
  • Master’s in Public Health, Certified Medical Technologist OR degree in related healthcare field required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience in hospital setting
  • Disease surveillance experience in a public health setting
  • Experience in education and statistical analysis
  • Computer skills and research experience

License/Certification:

  • If RN must have current license by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist must have a Nevada State license, or National Licensure as a Medical Technologist
  • Certification in Infection Control/Prevention
  • Ability to sit for a Certification in Infection Control within two years after hire date required
  • BLS certification required
