Job Description:
Responsible for secretarial duties which supports the operation of the Department. Duties include  facilitating timely and effective communication with all members of  nursing staff, technologists,physicians, patients, families and other departments in the organization. The Unit Secretary is responsible  for telephone management of incoming and outgoing calls in the Command Center, monitoring of  the lifenet communication systems and timely notification of the ANM of such alerts and calls. The Unit Secretary is responsible for the entry of orders in meditech. In addition the Unit Secretary may be called to assist in other clerical duties as assigned by the Department Director, Clinical Care Coordinator or Assistant Nurse Manager. 
  • Consistently displays telephone courtesy, answers promptly, and relays messages accurately to appropriate person.
  • Monitors all calls, transfers calls to the appropriate staff accurately  and in a timely manner.
  • Responds appropriately in all Code situations, making the necessary phone calls in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of orders in meditech
    Assists  in the reconciliation of the patient’s medical records.
  • Consistently uses at least two patient identifiers (patient's full name and date of birth or approved alternatives as applicable) to confirm patient identification prior to the provision of patient care or care-related services.
  • Consistently writes clearly and legibly, using correct spelling and approved abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols.

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent preferred
  • Associates or Technical degree preferred
  • 0-2 years experience in managing telephone calls
  • Communication, Customer Service , and computer skills
  • Must be able to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
