Unit Secretary - Emergency Room
HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is a 490-bed acute care facility offering inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty services. The campus includes Level II trauma capabilities, a Neuroscience Institute, The Heart & Vascular Hospital, a bariatrics program, the Breast Diagnostic Center, a wound care center, a level III Neonatal ICU, and the area’s only pediatric emergency department and pediatric ICU.
What you will do in this role:
Performs clerical functions in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Responsible for courteous, accurate and timely communication of information.
Responsible for assisting ED physicians, including making phone calls.
Entering admission requests and updating admission log in a timely manner.
Notify nurse of bed assignments and pages techs regarding patient transport,
Interacts with family members, as needed, in a customer-friendly atmosphere.
Answers telephone calls and refers to licensed nurse, as needed.
Responsible for maintaining supplies.
Enters orders and consults into the computer.
Responsible for maintaining chart organization including scanning and chart reconciliation
Responsible for keeping files/forms in orderly, organized fashion.
Responsible for ensuring charts are complete prior to sending to HIM including EPOM orders and other loose patient paperwork.
What qualifications you will need:
Previous clerical experience in the hospital field.
Medical terminology knowledge.
Good communication skills; able to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
Good grammar, spelling and math skill to perform related clerical and secretarial duties.
Ability to interact with others in a diplomatic and courteous manner on the telephone and in person.
