The Director of Oncology is responsible for strategic growth, administrative, and operational functions of the Oncology Program. This includes all aspects of staffing and operation processes that will drive high quality, efficient patient care The Director of Oncology works closely with key physicians in various specialty areas and oversees the team that directs a patient care plan. This position shares responsibility for program development in conjunction with quality, imaging, surgery, and clinical oncology services line leaders to ensure objectives, outcomes, and goals are achieved. This position requires advanced knowledge of the Idaho Falls physician landscape and all of the oncologic services and related specialties.

 

 

The Director of Oncology is responsible for assuring evidenced-based standards of care for Oncology patients. Monitoring and maintaining those standards as required by The Joint Commission, the American College of Surgeons and other regulatory agencies. The Director is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer designation, and achieving other program designations as indicated by EIRMC strategic initiatives and Senior Leadership.

 

The Director of Oncology assists and supports Nurse Navigators and outreach Directors that work with EMS to improve continuity of care prior to hospital arrival and provide feedback and education to EMS staff.

The Director will also work closely with the research opportunities, to assess and enroll patients in current clinical trials as applicable.

 

The Director of Oncology oversees the following outpatient oncology areas/program responsibilities with potential changes/additions and the personnel in the respective areas:

  • Radiation Oncology Department
  • Medical Oncology Outpatient Clinic
  • Women’s Imaging/Mammography
  • Commission on Cancer (COC) Implementation
  • Tumor Board Conferences
  • Cancer Related Research
  • Cancer Navigator(s) Program
  • Medical Directorship Relationship Management (Radiation Oncology/Medical Oncology

 

The largest medical facility in the region, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) includes a full-service hospital with 318 patient beds. It serves as the region’s healthcare hub, serving Southeast Idaho, Western Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park and parts of Montana.  EIRMC is home to a Level II Trauma Center, a Level 1 ICU (of only two in Idaho), and the only Burn Center in the state of Idaho. Our ER is the most experienced in the region. The hospital's other specialty services include the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit capable of caring for babies born as early as 22 weeks gestation; the region’s only Pediatric Intensive Unit, the largest heart program in the region, a Behavioral Health Center which is a74-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric hospital  and the region’s only Primary Stroke Center.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors required. Master’s Degree (preferred) 
  • Program Development experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years oncology (Radiation/Oncology) experience (preferred)
  • Experience in program development
  • Experience in program development or leadership and / or oncology (Radiation / Medical) program development strongly preferred
  • Experience in leadership, managing staff, and department operations
