Job Summary and Qualifications

As the Financial Authorization Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting financial and insurance information from patients requesting procedures that require insurance authorization. You will communicate with insurance case managers, counsel patients on financial issues surrounding procedures, and confirm insurance approvals to schedule procedures.

  • You will obtain relevant insurance coverage from patients
  • You will determine if pre-certification is required
  • You will handle coding and identifying CPT, ICD9 and ICD10 for clinical team and insurance
  • You will obtain required pre-certification from insurance company
  • You will communicate with insurance case manager regarding the pre-certification process
  • You will send required patient information to case management
  • You will compile insurance designated required documentation and submit for review to insurance
  • You will communicate with physician offices and hospital regarding the billing process
  • You will conduct financial counseling with patients
  • You will communicate with the scheduling office that patient is cleared for procedure
  • You will update Meditech with correct insurance authorization

What qualifications you will need:

Experience

  • Previous experience using various insurance verification databases
  • Experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with patient registration, financial counseling, or medical insurance – preferred

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center is an acute-care facility in central Texas with more than 300 patient beds. The hospital is known in the community for its nationally accredited oncology program – the Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Center, home to the area’s only adult bone marrow transplant program – and Level II trauma center. The facility’s full range of specialized services includes cardiovascular care and rehabilitation, imaging services, women’s services, joint replacement and orthopedics, surgical services including weight loss surgery, wound care, emergency care, cancer care, nutrition services, and a sleep disorder center. The hospital operates three full-service emergency centers.

 

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center is part of St. David’s HealthCare, which is one of the largest healthcare systems in Texas and the third-largest employer in the Austin area.
