Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • You will maintain knowledge of nursing theory and competent clinical skills necessary to direct and coordinate activities that ensure the provision of quality patient care, in a timely and compassionate manner.
  • In this role you will monitor staff capabilities and performance, adjusting assignments according to staff ability, qualifications, and acuity (workload) – keeping manager aware of performance issues.
  • In collaboration with your team, you will promote unit and staff development through positive communication, promotion of educational opportunities, innovative and creative problem solving, team building, and the enforcement of regulatory requirements. Mentors staff to provide high quality consistent care
  • You will direct and coordinate patient care functions to ensure nursing care assess, plan implement, and evaluate, consistent with the current Standards for Nursing Care.   
  • You will effectively communicate with staff, peers, director, external and internal customers and communicate pertinent information to appropriate individuals and maintains accurate and complete documentation of all patient information.
  • In absence of Department manager and Clinical coordinator (PTO, FMLA) you will be the contact person for the department.

 

 

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski (LGHP) is located in the beautiful mountainous region of Virginia. Pulaski is considered a neighbor to the Virginia Tech Hokie community and is a short 45-minute drive from Roanoke, VA. The HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) hospital is a 147-bed acute care facility with more than 350 employees and has been recognized by Joint Commission as a Top Performer. The medical staff includes a wide range of primary care and specialty care physicians, including Cardiology, Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology and Oncology as well as Hospitalists.

 

Our Medical Surgical team has diverse capabilities to offer care to patients with a range of conditions such as joint injuries, infectious diseases, chemotherapy treatment along with various general medical conditions. Our unit is an incredible team of close-knit health professionals, both highly experienced as well as recently graduated RN's. We are welcoming and enthusiastic about providing support and mentorship for our newest team members.

 

Here is some additional information regarding the LGHP Medical/Surgical Unit:

  • A typical Med/Surg unit
  • Includes Telemetry and Progress Care Unit populations
  • Non- titratable drips and continuous cardiac monitoring
  • Orthopedic, cardiac, stroke populations serviced in addition to the general medical surgical population
  • Nurse to patient ratios based on acuity
  • A supportive environment focused on fostering educational opportunities and specialty certification 
 
 

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

  • Acute nursing experience preferred.

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

 

  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program (required)
  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of Nursing (preferred)

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current licensure as an RN in the state of Virginia or current multi-state compact RN license with eligibility to practice in VA is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required)
