The HCA Healthcare Internal Audit Department provides an independent appraisal function to validate management control systems and to support corporate management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities and efforts to achieve the Company's overall mission. The HealthTrust Vendor Audit Team ensures vendor compliance with the terms and conditions of supply, equipment, service and pharmaceutical contracts by identifying and recovering price overbillings and fee/rebate underpayments to help reduce supply costs for HealthTrust members .Intern professionals will receive adequate training, work on various projects with HealthTrust Audit Team members, interact with department leadership, and receive formal evaluations/feedback on job performance. 


  • Manages project due dates and escalates potential project delays and causes to supervisor and/or HealthTrust management.
  • Obtains an understanding of vendor billing processes through interviews with vendor management, review of the terms/conditions in the contract, and analysis of vendor provided data.
  • Develops an audit approach based on the associated contract risk areas and the data received from the vendor.
  • Collaborates with vendor management throughout the audit process as audit challenges arise, such data limitations.
  • Performs audit procedures to determine price overcharges and rebate/fee underpayments for contracted items using vendor-provided data, member purchase data, and related contract terms.
  • Reviews terms and conditions of specific vendor contracts being audited and identifies the associated risks.
  • Executes procedures, such as identifying audit risks, obtaining an understanding of routine data processes, testing controls, and performing substantive procedures.
  • Analyzes evidence, reaches conclusions, and communicates results to auditor in charge.
  • Interacts with client personnel and demonstrates a commitment to continually improve our clients’ satisfaction.
  • Manages the execution of intern/staff audit work performed.
  • Documents work performed in a clear and concise manner.Work to be reviewed to verify accuracy and conformance with instructions.
  • Prepares written communications such as correspondence with vendor throughout the audit process and prepares the audit report/invoice.
  • Communicates detail audit results (with supporting documentation if necessary) to vendor in a clear, concise format to obtain vendor verification and concurrence.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of project status and provides appropriate information to ensure timely project completion.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills necessary to review large amounts of data for accuracy and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by cooperating with all team members, sharing information, accepting constructive feedback, and accepting additional assignments when appropriate.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Stays abreast of general business and economic developments. Gains an understanding of healthcare industry, particularly the risks involved with the areas of Group Purchasing Organizations and contracted vendors.
  • Continually develops technical accounting, auditing, and personal development skills in accordance with the department’s continuing education/professional development requirements. 


  • Med/Surg Audits (validate pricing, fee, and freight accuracy, test membership completeness)
  • Pharmacy Audits (validate pricing accuracy)
  • Failure to Supply Audits (analyze drug shortages and submit claims)
  • Special Projects (HPG management requests)


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-driven and motivated for continuous improvement and satisfying customer needs. Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well with deadlines/related time pressures.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and creativity.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills. Candidate should be proficient in pivot tables and Vlookups.
  • Knowledge of database and analytics platforms a plus.


  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Accounting, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Finance, Information Technology, Supply Chain/Logistics, or related field 
  • 1-2 years’ experience (audit and/or healthcare preferred)
  • CPA preferred, but not required
  • One week of travel for training seminar required
