The Senior Systems Engineers’ role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the Automation Center of Excellence (ACoE) across the HCA Healthcare enterprise Systems.

This is achieved by planning, designing and developing systems management applications across the organization.  In addition, the Senior System Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all system and application management hardware, software and communication links.  These responsibilities will also require SME knowledge skillsets across the server, network and monitoring application technologies, services and components.  Position must keep updated on the latest monitoring technologies and services so that the enterprise system environment is strategically enhanced to proactively meet the HCA Healthcare customer/business requirements and maintain service level.

This individual will also analyze and resolve ACoE hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user and internal team training where required.  Position often will interact daily with the division, CSS, testing services, product analysts, BA’s, leadership, design and build, business owners/partners, vendors and other ITG staff/management.  There will also be some interaction with the end users/customers on developing alerting solutions that meet HCA Healthcare business requirements.  Excellent written and oral communications for presentations, technical white papers and networking proposals will be required.  The ability to facilitate and document next steps from a meeting to move projects forward are also a key role for this position.  Project management and problem management skills are required to effectively meet HCA Healthcare business objectives and SLAs.

As part of the drive to ensure reliability and performance of our application(s) the Senior System Engineer should be able to develop scripts and or programs utilizing a variety of tools and skillsets to help respond to system’s needs.  These efforts should be done in accordance with standard SLDC methodologies and practices.

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide leadership and mentorship to other members of the team in pursuit of these objectives.  They will build strong relationships within and outside the organization and stay engaged with industry standards and advances relevant to their roles and responsibilities and work introduce those to the organization.  The Senior Systems Engineer will work to identify gaps and opportunities for stability and growth of the ACoE applications and engage their team as well as others to achieve those goals in accordance with company directives and standards.

The Senior Systems Engineer must exhibit communication and leadership skills to maintain positive business relations with employees, customers, business partners, peers and other ITG personnel. Some of those expectations are:

Major Responsibilities:

•Complex enterprise CPU, Server, storage and network designs utilizing best practice switching/routing technologies and topologies.  Strategic enterprise systems management planning and integration of new technologies.

•Script and Program development in a PowerShell, C and or a variety of tools and languages to remediate and automate system reliability and performance

•New and best of breed product and technology evaluations and research, integration testing proposals

•Partnering with platform vendors on product design enhancements to integrate new technologies

• Author technical white papers on new technologies and operational module development

• Subject matter expert on topics related to Windows OS, Microsoft SQL Server, IIS and other Microsoft related technologies

• All related SPLUNK, BMC, CA and Microsoft (SCOM) alerting protocols as well as reviewing additional alerting tools required for each individual application.

•Engineering consultations of Level III systems management troubleshooting/problem resolutions, protocol analysis, system troubleshooting/problem determination skills with trace/capture/analysis software

•System architecture and tiered application modules knowledge.  Understanding of end-to-end data flows and traffic patterns.

•System and application impact analysis and capacity planning

•Setting System Management standards and policies/procedural documentation and enterprise level system diagramming

•Project Management and problem management skill sets

•Training/Mentoring peers and other ITG staff

•Participate and lead troubleshooting and support of Microsoft SQL & Windows OS

•Installs, configures, and maintains the organization's Systems and Alert Management applications.

•Acts as organizational interface with vendor and provides internal analysis and support.

•Manages performance and maintains security of Systems Management applications.

•Manages performance of a multiple hardware and software platform interface at the most complex level.

•Design, install, configure, administer, tune, and optimize application systems servers and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various business applications supported.

•Configures new implementations, and develops processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment.

•Expert recommendations for upgrades and improvements.

•Supports development of technical standards and application uses.

•Resolves alert management problems and offers technical assistance to users.

•Prepares specifications and programs of a highly technical or complex nature.

•Senior level position requiring advanced technical knowledge in areas of applications availability, system design, and update, storage, and retrieval methods.

•Analyzes user specifications and requirements.

•On Call work will be required.


Bachelor's Degree Information Systems – Preferred


5 or more years of experience in Systems Engineering - Required

Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience


Professional Certifications in Associated Technologies - Preferred
