NICU RN Clinical Coordinator:

Under the general supervision of the unit’s Director, assumes administrative and clinical responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit during designated shifts. In collaboration with other members of the management team, is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided. In the Department Director’s absence, maintains charge of the department and reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Current license in the State of Utah as a Registered Nurse, compact license allowed

American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) certification

American Red Cross or American Heart Association Advanced Life Support Course (ALS or ACLS).

Current NRP and STABLE completed one time only.

PALS certification is highly recommended. 

 

Education: Associate’s Degree required.  BSN preferred.

 

Experience:  At least 2 years of experience in nursing.  2 years of nursing management experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Manages healthcare team members, must have excellent communication skills to effectively counsel, support, and direct.  Expected to lead others through change and crisis situations.  Must have excellent critical thinking skills to problem solve issues. Must be able to delegate responsibilities to subordinates based on skill sets and scope of practice.  Expected to receive and give patient care reports.  Expected to assist in completion of annual reviews as delegated.  Some other responsibilities within role include: chairing committees within the department, manage resource issues (staffing), oversee scheduling conflicts and facilitate orientation and on-going education of employees.  Excellent nursing knowledge and skills -- both technical and interpersonal/customer service skills.

Requires skills related to assessment and planning, prioritizing, calculating, organizing, analyzing, sorting, comparing, listening, decision-making, reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Also requires teamwork, initiative/follow through, and good communication skills. Must deal with a variety of personalities and be able to function well under stressful situations. Must have clinical competence to serve as resource to subordinates. Must be self-directed with the ability to lead others.  Must have effective communication, be able to critically think quickly under stress and respond appropriately to crisis situations. Must be able to effectively communicate to physicians and other healthcare team members.  Must be able to collaborate and negotiate with co-workers and other healthcare team members.  Must be able to effectively manage conflict
