The Director develops and maintains systems to promote high levels of patient, employee and physician satisfaction; as well as external customer satisfaction, and improving patient outcomes as evidenced through HCAHPS and quality scores.  Assumes all facets of operations and accountability of the ortho/trauma department. Responsible for assuring adequate staffing and maintaining appropriate productivity standards.  Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the care of patients in designated areas.  Provides patient care utilizing the nursing process-assessment, care planning, implementation, and reassessment for identified population per the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.   Documents patient care; coordinates interdisciplinary communication and care; participates on hospital committees; facilitates unit meetings.  Develops and implements unit specific competencies; annual performance of staff; supervises the unit manager, RN’s, CNA’s, MST’s, and ACT’s. Provides coaching and counseling for employees as appropriate; supervises unit scheduling; monitors and addresses employee attendance.

Develop strategic plans specific to the orthopedic and trauma services including:  program development, quality standards and improvements, patient safety and patient satisfaction initiatives.  Promote orthopedic and spine services outreach.  Demonstrate understanding of orthopedic and trauma guidelines and accreditation processes including quality metrics.  Leads orthopedic (spine and total joint) centers of excellence including state/regional or national accreditations. Demonstrate understanding of The Joint Commission Standards for accreditation as well as Centers for Medicaid/Medicare compliance. Also performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications

  • BSN required
  • Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license.

  • 3-5 years of experience
