The Charge Nurse is responsible for assigning patients to and monitoring the work of nurses within the unit on assigned shift and to assist the Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor in the supervision of assigned employees on the shift. The Charge Nurse is the first level of administration assigned to the unit in the absence of the Nursing Director/Manager and Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor. The position may also carry a patient load and applies the nursing process to deliver basic, safe, therapeutic care, for individuals or groups of patients. The Charge Nurse is assigned to a designated clinical area to assist in assuring a patient/family focused environment.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certifications: Must hold a current license from the Kentucky Board of Nursing. BLS required upon hire and ACLS within six months of hire. CCRN within 1 year of eligibility, preferred.

Experience: 1-2 years of previous charge experience preferred. Prior experience in a similar size facility with similar services provided is preferred. Previous emergency, pre-hospital or critical care preferred.
