Position Summary (includes but is not limited to): The Registered Nurse as a Labor and Delivery Nurse performs the functions of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for patients. Meets Standards of Care and Standards of Practice: Supervises assigned personnel: Promotes collaboration with physicians and personnel of other departments. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients served: Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over life span and possesses ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify patient requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. Provides care needed as described in department policies and procedures: Completes a competency skills checklist within 3 months of employment. The registered nurse as a Labor and Delivery Nurse is a registered professional nurse who participates as an active member of the Nursing Team on the assigned unit/department. The registered nurse as a Labor and Delivery Nurse assumes responsibility for coordinating safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care for patients on the assigned unit/department. Principle responsibilities include participating in strategic planning, service delivery, program development, evaluation and implementation, budget and resource management, cost control, contract compliance and quality improvement. In addition, the registered nurse supports patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities.
The registered nurse as a Labor and Delivery Nurse may also work as a registered professional nurse in the capacity of Charge RN in addition to being a clinical nurse providing care for patients for an assigned time. The registered nurse maintains current competency with nursing skills required for the assigned unit/department, and demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of Practice in the assigned area. He/She demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth & development over life span, and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status, and to interpret the data appropriately to identify patient requirements specific to the patient’s age.

Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year recent labor & delivery nursing experience, in a comparable or more active unit or completion of Labor and Delivery course at Southern Hills Hospital, including surgical suite.
Candidates should be proficient in labor & delivery nursing procedures and skills, including fetal monitoring interpretation.
Candidate will have proficiency in newborn, maternal/child, and labor & delivery; child bearing women (11-55 years), nursing procedures and skills, including assessment.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nevada.
S.T.A.B.L.E. (within 90 days of hire)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (within 90 days of hire)
AWHONN Fetal monitoring validation within 6 months of hire.
ACLS must be obtained within three (3) months of Hire/Transfer.
Pass National League of Nursing medication test with score of 80%.
