Registered Nurse (RN) - Infusion Services Unit - PRN

HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.

What you will do in this role:


Responsible for monitoring patients before, during, and after infusion(s).

Responsible for care and maintenance of peripheral and central lines; this includes but not limited to accessing port-a-caths and maintaining all types of central venous catheters.

Must be knowledgeable regarding a wide variety of infusates, including but not limited to chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, multiple types of antibodies. and immunoglobulins.

Must be knowledgeable regarding blood and blood components administration, 6 months of hire date, must be certified through ONS for Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration(Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card).

Responsible for coordinating and having consistent communication with pharmacy personnel.

Responsible for receiving, and verifying orders, and communicating with physicians.

Responsible for monitoring lab results and communicating with physicians in a timely manner any abnormal results.

Responible for providing teaching and instructions to patients receiving infusions in the clinic and at home.

Responsible to ensure patient safety in the infusion center prior to discharging patients to home.

Able for reacting to any patient emergency situations occurring in the infusion area.

Must be willing to be on call, including weekends.

Must be willing to work occasional weekends, and holidays.

Must be willing to share responsibilities with all other staff with regards to keeping work areas safe, clean and tidy.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications needed in this role:

  • Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum Experience: 6 months to 1 year required
  • Required Ongoing Certification: BLS, ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification
  • In addition, preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
  • Required Licensure: RN Licensure in the state of Texas
  • Skills: Communication in a clear manner, skills related to the RN, basic computer skills required.
  • Must pass an open book medication test with a score of 80% or greater on first attempt to be considered for hire.
