Tucker Pavilion, at HCA Virginia’s Chippenham Hospital, has been committed to the Behavioral Health needs of our community for over 100 years.  We offer a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services for children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients in our newly renovated units. 
Tucker Pavilion – The Leader in Behavioral Health:
  • Offering of care continuum – crisis team on site, inpatient/acute care for all ages, partial hospitalization for adolescents/adults
  • Use of audiovisual technology to offer Behavioral Health Needs assessments to HCA Virginia’s Emergency Departments 
  • Partnership with the community in offering a Crisis Triage Center
  • Injection of clinical pathways in programming
  • Diverse array of therapeutic offerings – yoga, 12 step support, NAMI peer support, spiritual, pet therapy, gym on site, and more
  • Quality focus with outcome measurements injected into clinical programming
  • Four Child Psychiatrists 
  • Host site for Behavioral Health clinical nursing rotations


  1. Supports the roles of the department staff; manages Clinical Pathways staffing schedule.

  2. Participates in interviewing, orientation, training and mentoring staff.

  3. Works collaboratively with community agencies to provide services to assist with housing, financial, transportation, psychosocial, education, home health and DME needs of patients/families.

  4. Engages and networks with community partners to increase communication, solicit feedback and strengthen relationships within the community 

  5. Develops and maintains database of community referral networks, outpatient partner providers and post-hospitalization treatment options.

  6. Facilitates processes and procedures of department in order to strengthen optimal movement of patients throughout the continuum of care.

  7. Identify process improvement opportunities, develops action plans and oversight of the implementation thereof in collaboration with the Manager.

  8. Responsible for compliance with regulatory standards, TJC, CMS, DBHDS.  Develop and maintain tools to assess quality and compliance; identify improvement opportunities and implement action plans.

  9. Reviews Intake and Integrated Assessments and conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessment focused on patient’s strengths, barriers, and supports which impact optimal functioning across spheres. Documents assessments, mental status examinations, and risks assessments in the medical record. 

  10. Coordinates treatment planning.

  11. Monitors patient progress through the use of mental status examinations and risk assessments and coordinates discharge planning as evidenced by documentation.

  12. Facilitates therapeutic interventions including psycho-educational groups, individualized treatment interventions, and family meetings.  Assesses patient progress and barriers to treatment as evidenced by documentation. 

  13. Has working knowledge of utilization management functions and performs these duties as assigned.

  14. Provides for the safety of patients, visitors and staff and actively participates in quality management activities.

  15. Reports to work as scheduled and on time.

  16. Assumes responsibility for completing all mandatory educational, health screening, CPR, and CPI requirements within designated time frame.

  17. Demonstrates self-directed learning in order to nurture own professional developments, as well as meet the needs of the organization.

  18. Other duties as assigned.


  • Graduation from a professional school of nursing or a minimum of a MA/MSW degree in a behavioral care discipline (required) 
  • Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Social Work or other related behavioral healthcare field. (preferred) 
  • Licensed as an independent practitioner through the Department of Health Professionals (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or RN)  
  • Minimum 5 years behavioral health clinical commensurate with educational level (required)
  • Acute care behavioral health clinical experience. Recent experience with QM and discharge planning. Discharge planning and individual/group/family therapy experience (preferred)
