Must successfully complete orientation program and validation of skills.
Assures that patient rights and privacy are maintained. Deals with patient information in a confidential manner. Maintains a professional appearance.
Follows safety and infection control policies of hospital, nursing, laboratory departments, utilizes good aseptic techniques.
Verifies patient identity and explains specifics when performing testing procedures.
Assists the RN with patient care and hygiene. Performs specific diagnostic tests and procedures under the direction of the RN (i.e., accuchecks).
Assists with the collection of intake and outputs, vital signs, and charting them in the computer. When appropriate, presents documentation for RN review.
Assists with feeding of the patients, and preparing tube feedings under the direction of an RN.
Able to take vital signs, perform weights, empty foley bags/drains, and performs and assists with activities of daily living. The Tech I will also be able to remove peripheral IV lines, perform bladder scans, and accomplish discontinuation of foley catheters.
Able to prioritize duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Maintains a clean, hazard-free clinical area. Maintains well stocked patient areas, setting up rooms for admissions and discharges. Is responsible for checking unit specific carts and equipment and keeping the supplies well stocked.
Safely transports patients, specimens and equipment to the appropriate departments.
At time of discharge, ensures all patient's valuables and belongings accompany patients.
Assists with secretarial duties. Performs related activities including but not limited to: answering call lights, date collection ,participating on committees, ordering supplies and maintaining appropriate levels of supplies (including linen) in treatment areas, and in nursing stations.
Assists patients/families with making phone calls and orienting them to other room equipment.
Attends department meetings, inservice and other educational opportunities as scheduled. Participates in department QA/QI activities.
Is friendly, cooperative, and flexible; able to follow directions well, works well individually and as a team player.
Evaluates and maintains unit, personal, and patients' safety by following hospital and nursing division policies and procedures.
As scheduled by Department Director to ensure appropriate coverage of department services. Must be able to work weekends as scheduled. Participates in on-call requirements as per department policy.
