We are seeking a Genetic Counselor to join the Cancer Center at Johnston-Willis Hospital.

Our cancer program is accredited by many organizations including the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC), the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the Joint Commission Certification for Brain Tumors.  Over 50% of our eligible nurses are oncology certified (OCN).


The responsibilities of the Genetic Counselor include but are not limited to: 

  • Demonstrating clinical competence and providing genetic counseling within Oncology setting.

  • Initiating and documenting patient education including family and/or significant others, using appropriate patient education documentation modality.

  • Playing a critical role in the coordination of care between the Oncology Center, primary Oncologist, subspecialty health care providers and inpatient units.

  • Participating in the development of standards of care, practice and performance guidelines, policy and procedures and patient education related to genetic counseling.

In addition, as a Genetic Counselor, you will:

  • Participate in Oncology Center continuous quality improvement and Joint Commission activities.

  • Utilize and facilitate research that supports and advances genetic counseling. 

  • Demonstrate professional growth and leadership through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.

  • Work with clinic teams to develop process for high risk patients.

  • MS in Genetic Counseling from an ABGC-accredited institution (required) 
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetics Counseling (required)
  • 2 years of experience in a genetic counseling position (preferred)

  • Must be able and willing to travel to market-wide facilities, if needed (required)
