JOB SUMMARY 


This is a key leadership position within the Risk & Insurance Department, supervising directly or indirectly nine employees, and reporting directly to the VP – Risk & Insurance.  This individual is responsible for the design and maintenance of an efficient, effective, responsive and customer oriented insurance program protecting all the assets of HCA globally.  The AVP – Insurance understands and assesses the insurable risk of the organization and partners with external insurance brokers to evaluate commercial insurance products to protect those assets.  This position is also responsible for developing and promoting insurance programs responsive to local facility needs, particularly with regard to any employed, contracted or staff physician needs.  Additionally this AVP maintains regulatory insurance compliance in each state and country in which HCA operates.  


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Investigate and understand the insurable risks associated with HCA’s business to be able to evaluate commercially available insurance products and their capacity to adequately and reasonably protect HCA assets.   
  • Procure and maintain insurance programs for all insurable risks and coverage lines at optimal cost and effectiveness.
  • Develop, maintain and nurture relationships with external insurance brokers and consultants that support the placement of insurance products and programs.

Manage the daily insurance operations and services provided by the Risk & Insurance Department, while maintaining excellent customer service.  Those services include:

    Policy issuance and historical maintenance

    Issuance of certificates of insurance

    Coverage analysis and determination

    Coverage verifications

    Consulting advice including contract reviews

•    Regulatory insurance compliance (rate and form filing, etc.)


Develop and manage comprehensive physician underwriting programs that is responsive to the needs of HCA’s Physician Services Group; maintain accurate historical records relating to the programs.  
Evaluate, develop and maintain unique and appropriate insurance programs for HCA’s partnerships and other ventures, etc. worldwide.
Assist facilities and other business units in evaluating any special insurance needs that may arise in the course of their business, and develop responses that harmonize with the Company’s consolidated insurance program
Directly oversee any claims, other than employee injury, malpractice and general liability (e.g. property, auto, director’s & officer’s, fiduciary, crime, cyber, etc.) and advocate on behalf of HCA for the best claim outcome.
Oversees evaluation of legal matters and/or demands to determine if insurance is applicable.
Other duties as assigned by the VP – Risk & Insurance.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree 


EXPERIENCE 

15+ years of experience in a leadership role. Insurance brokerage and/or underwriting is a plus

Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter Designation (CPCU)
