POSITION SUMMARY:  The surgical technicians are under the supervision of the physician, operating room manager, and the assigned registered nurse.  The surgical technician participates in the care of the patient by assisting the surgeon on surgical procedures, planning the supplies and equipment for the procedure, and maintaining the instrumentation by proper cleaning and sterilizing.  Surgical technicians possess and apply knowledge of the surgical procedures, are able to pass instruments, hold retractors, cut suture, and keep inventory of sponges, needles and instruments used during the operation.  They know how to operate machinery used during procedures and help with care and disposal of specimens removed during surgery for testing.  Technicians are knowledgeable of sterile technique, sterile processing, integrity of sterile products, and proper use of instruments and equipment. Technicians have knowledge of and practice operating room safety and participate in creating a safe, efficient, and cost effective experience for the surgical patient.  They utilize knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.  The surgical technician utilizes clinical expertise in performance of their duties.  A surgical technician supports the mission and vision of Cache Valley Specialty Hospital, and participates in performance improvement activities.  They support Cache Valley Specialty Hospitals vision and mission of customer service and quality care.  Because dynamics of the department can change at any time, duties and schedules can change without prior notice. 





Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred



BLS within 30 days of hire.

            Surgical Technician training program education preferred.



            Operating Room Technician experience preferred.
