Essential Blood Bank Supervisor (MT) job functions and responsibilities:
Directing daily operations including decision-making, response to problems, identifying errors and taking corrective actions; Demonstrates technical expertise.
Contributing to good employee relationships and providing for staff development; performing employee performance appraisals.
Adhering to proper resource allocation and coordination. Ensuring maximum efficiency in the use of personnel; controlling departmental supply expenses.
Demonstrating and encouraging innovation and creativity and responding to changes in laboratory medicine. Motivating and education staff to challenge traditional operational methods.
Managing and sharing daily workload; using time wisely and providing a productive atmosphere.
Demonstrating through knowledge of test methodologies and quality control; developing, writing, reviewing and implementing procedures and policies. Preparing laboratory for inspections and preparing reports as needed.
Maintaining good communication with laboratory leadership, pathologists, co-workers, team members and customers; demonstrating an awareness of patient/client expectations and seeking ways to always satisfy.
Supporting the Hospital and Laboratory administrative and management teams and displaying effective leadership skills and talents.
Demonstrating proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks and providing training to employees as necessary.
Ensuring all instrument maintenance is performed and documented; administering all established quality control procedures and troubleshooting instruments effectively when appropriate.
Understanding and participating in laboratory QA plans, safety policies, emergency preparedness plans and infection control plans.
Understanding/respecting laboratory billing compliance plan; adhering to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan, attending annual billing compliance trainings and annual ethics trainings as well as understanding and adhering to patient security and confidentiality standards.
Initiating and documenting patient teachings, including family and/or significant others; demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
- Graduate of accredited school of Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent. (required)
- 5 or more years of experience as Medical Technologist or MLS in designated section or discipline; or previous Supervisory experience in a designated section or discipline. (required)
