As one of the largest facilities in the nation's largest hospital system (HCA), Chippenham Hospital provides the full scope of healthcare services. With 466 beds, we specialize in heart care at the Levinson Heart Hospital and emotional and mental health services through Tucker Pavilion. Our ER is also a state -authorized Level II trauma Center and we offer Central Virginia's only Pediatric ER staffer 24/7 by pediatric-trained ER nurse and physician specialists.
Our Quality Department (located in the Medical Office Building) works within the hospital and oversees the hospital outcomes metrics as well as patient safety. We have 15 team members within our department and are looking to add an additional Quality Intern. We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills as well as someone who can professional and politely interact with patients and families. This role will be a 12 week position who will work approximately 40 hours per week. The position will be responsible for completing projects within a defined timeframe as determined appropriate by leadership to support organizational goals. In completing assignment, the Intern will work closely with hospital staff as well as external resources to meet defined objectives. For each project, a mentor (with expertise related to the topic) will be assigned to review work, provide constructive feedback, and guidance through completion. The Intern will adhere to all facility and departmental policies and procedures, as well as safety, environmental and infection control and prevent standards in the performance of work duties.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE:
Researches quality related topics, identifies and summarizes (written / oral) relevant data and information to meet defined objectives. Topics include, but are not limited to, patient concerns, best practices, specialty certifications, licensure, or quality awards.
Participates in gap analyses for upcoming on-site surveys or external submissions, including data analysis, aggregation of audits, environmental or process observations.
Assists in completing application process for specialty certifications, licensure, or awards, including data aggregation, graphics, and narrative summaries of processes and/or accomplishments that exemplify standards.
Drafts presentations and communications related to quality subject matter for internal and external customers (examples: newsletters, intra / internet, community outreach, storyboards, grievance responses).
Participates as member of process / performance improvement team(s), assisting team facilitator.
Remains compliant with required education and employee health screenings (examples: Code of Conduct, Safety Days, influenza vaccine and TB screening).
