About this Facility
Eastside Medical Center has been a healthcare leader for more than 38 years providing quality care to patients in Gwinnett and surrounding counties. Eastside is a 310-bed, multi-campus system of care offering comprehensive medical and surgical programs including cardiovascular, neurosciences, oncology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, maternity with neonatal intensive care, behavioral health, bariatric, urgent care, and 24-hour emergency care at two locations.
•Coordinates, manages and administers hospital-wide Infection Prevention program
•Identifies nosocomial infections and activities to reduce risks for nosocomial infections.
•Maintains knowledge of infection prevention and control standard of care for all clinical departments.
•Maintains current knowledge of hospital, federal, state and local laws, and OSHA and Joint Commission requirements pertaining to infection control.
•Functions as infection prevention and control education consultant for staff, physicians, volunteers, contract employees, and students.
•Provides oversight to the Employee Health program
•Functions as member of the Emergency Preparedness team.
Department Specific Criteria:
•Serves as a member of the Infection Control (I.C.) Committee and other committees where can play a valuable role. Responsible for influencing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the standards of care developed by the committee.
•Surveillance of infection control standards as designated by the Infection Control Committee is done and deficiencies are reported to the committee for recommendations/actions.
•Compiles and analyzes epidemiological surveillance data of infections in patients and personnel.
•Statistical data is presented at I.C. Committee Meeting.
•All infection rates above the threshold are investigated and conclusions/actions are documented in committee minutes.
•Results of findings are forwarded to Medical Staff departments, Executive Committee and Board of Trustees as necessary.
•Collaborates with and oversees Employee Health Nurse regarding communicable employee infections and conclusions/actions are documented in committee minutes.
•Writes annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment Plan and summary of Infection Control Program Evaluation.
•Develops appropriate measures of prevention and control of infection by conducting environmental rounds.
•Identifies opportunities for improvement by addressing targeted areas/sites.
•Documents HAI rates and bundle rates as required by HCA and regulatory agencies and reports in a timely manner.
•Acts as a resource member of core measure committees, as needed.
•Coordinates hand hygiene program. Provides staff education, develops and evaluations effectiveness of the hand hygiene program.
•Directs HCA Infection Prevention initiatives. Maintains and reports findings as required in a timely fashion.
•Reviews and disseminates current infection control information to the appropriate individual or department.
•Maintains infection control policies and procedures that reflect the current standards of practice.
•Monitors hospital-wide and department specific patient care activities, to identify methods, techniques, equipment or supplies which may constitute or reduce a risk of originating or transmitting infection and validate effectiveness of Infection Control Program.
•Reviews infection control literature for new products that are cost-effective and/or that support change in process while maintaining safe infection control standards.
•Reports infections and/or communicable diseases to the appropriate public health authority.
•Performs infection prevention and control education at hospital-wide Orientation or on an as-needed basis, addressing isolation, hand hygiene, equipment cleaning and device associated infection prevention.
•Participate in local, state symptoms surveillance and acts as a liaison with county health department regarding bioterrorism –infection control issues.
•Supervises Infection Prevention and Control Surveillance Nurse

Current Georgia RN licensure
BLS – American Heart Association - required
Certification in Infection Control - preferred
