The Senior BI Application Engineer is part of the Business Intelligence (BI) department and designs, architects and develops applications, dashboards and solutions in Microstrategy. The Senior BI Application Engineer also provides infrastructure support, consulting related to development best practices, and lead development expertise to strategic applications. This position will work with technical users, business analysts, and business owners to understand requirements and identify solutions.  This position has significant experience with the design, development, maintenance, and administration of BI projects, with an emphasis on Microstrategy dashboards and solutions. This position will work in conjunction with and may provide leadership to a team of developers to meet technical requirements. 

The Senior BI Application Engineer should be capable of conducting all work with minimal oversight and will be viewed as an expert in the applications.  This candidate will perform all duties with a focus on quality of work and attention to detail with a high level of self-management and self-awareness. Reports to the Manager of Business Intelligence Solutions.          

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE
5-10 years of relevant working experience, preferably in the Healthcare IT industry. Business intelligence experience and experience working with revenue cycle is preferred. 

Key desired experience includes the following:
•Advanced development of  MicroStrategy projects including architecture, dashboards, reports, and mobile
•Experience in MicroStrategy administration and performance optimization
•Experience with physical and logical modeling
•Strong data analysis skills with experience in data transformation
•Proficient in Advanced SQL queries and stored procedures
•Experience working with cross-functional teams
•Strong written and verbal communication
•Experience interfacing with internal stakeholders
•Experience in training BI developers and business end users
•Experience working with large databases such as Teradata
•Experience across multiple BI tools is a plus, MicroStrategy is required

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field Preferred
•5+ years of business intelligence, MicroStrategy experience is required
•Healthcare IT Experience, Revenue Cycle Experience, Project Management Experience preferred

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
•Construct and debug applications across all aspects of application development including but not limited to Middle tier and Database layer (SQL, T-SQL, and SSIS) as well as front end graphical user interface design
•Proficient in Advanced SQL queries and stored procedures, physical and logical modeling techniques, and strong data analysis skills
•Advanced development of MicroStrategy projects including architecture, dashboards, reports, and mobile
•MicroStrategy administration and performance optimization
•Integrate new/existing software with existing systems
•Production application support
•Collaborate with business analysts, project lead, management and customers on project requirements
•Provide accurate and thorough estimates of work effort
•Participate in large-scale development projects involving multiple areas outside of core team.
•Develop understanding of defined Agile processes and coding standards
•Build strong relationship with stakeholders
•Lead solution design with business owners
•Participate in local user community groups specializing in Business Intelligence, specifically MicroStrategy
•Attend relevant courses and/or conferences to obtain new skills and information regarding BI Tools

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
•Advanced SQL skill required
•Experience with various ETL tools preferably SSIS and DMExpress
•Teradata experience preferred
•5 years of experience with MicroStrategy
•Experience with other BI Reporting solution such as Business Objects, Qlikview, Tableau, or Arcplan
•SDK experience
•.Net or Java/JavaScript
•Experience with command manager, object manager, visual insights, or distribution services
•Experience in performance optimization
•Experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop is a plus
•Healthcare revenue cycle management knowledge is preferred

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

•Light travel may be required
•Typical work week hours can vary depending on workload and project deliverables
•Work from home arrangements defined and agreed upon with supervisor
