Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is a 257-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 200 of the most highly respected and qualified physicians in the area. It is the only acute care hospital in the TriCounty area that offers open heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center. An affiliate of the UAB Cancer Community Network, Fort Walton offers a Cancer Care Center that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center also provides advanced care for critically ill patients, including cardiovascular and trauma injury care, and emergency services, including a main ERPediatric ER and Destin ER. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is in partnership with Twin Cities Hospital, located in Niceville. We are also the parent company of the Rehabilitation Institute, both located in Destin.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will assist the Director of Risk Management in implementation of all aspects of the Risk Management program including the identification of opportunities to improve patient care; compliance of the facility with regulations/standards; participating in the daily operations with the Risk Management staff; providing assistance in monitoring, coordinating and planning a Risk Management Program, which includes the industrial hygiene and safety management program; which includes assisting in the preparation, recording, trending and maintenance of all documentation that supports and defines organizational-wide Risk Management processes, plans and policies.  The Risk Coordinator will act as the Risk Director’s representative in carrying out Risk Management activities in the absence of the Director, Risk Management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or Diploma of Nursing required
  • Current FL RN license required; or appropriate compact licensure
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a hospital setting required
  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) required within 12 months of hire
  • Certified Healthcare Risk Management Professional (CPHRM) preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital health care setting doing Risk/ Quality Management processes preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Knowledge of applicable standards of health care risk management, patient safety and accreditation compliance
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local health and safety laws and rules
  • Knowledge of general risk management administration including clinical operations, claims, risk financing, proactive loss prevention and departmental organization and management
  • Knowledge of patient care including patient rights, patient grievances and the principles of disclosure
  • Knowledge of medical care including medical and bio-ethics, human factors and system concepts
  • Knowledge of personal and social care including informed consent, patient self-determination, advance directives and cultural sensitivity
  • Knowledge of patient harm prevention strategies and patient safety culture
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques and measures
  • Community interrelationships
  • Medical terminology
  • The role of patients and families in improving patient safety and reducing risks

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
