Personalized Medicine - Program Specialist

*This is a Nashville, TN based position at our corporate headquarters.

Sarah Cannon Research Institute is the research arm of HCA Healthcare’s global cancer institute, Sarah Cannon. Focused on advancing therapies for patients, it is one of the world’s leading clinical research organizations conducting community-based clinical trials throughout the United States and United Kingdom. Sarah Cannon’s network of strategic sites includes more than 275 physicians who engage in research. The organization has led more than 300 first-in-man clinical trials since its inception in 1993, and has been a clinical trial leader in the majority of approved cancer therapies over the last 10 years.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Initiate, maintain, and develop strategic relationships and scientific communications to support the institution’s growing Personalize Medicine initiative. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, 1) providing molecular consultations to medical oncologists and research staff to aid in understanding molecular data for cancer patients 2) assimilating clinical, molecular, and clinical trial data to help support Molecular Tumor Boards and other educational activities, 3) collaborating with personalized medicine staff to build presentations for physician leaders, investigators, and research staff, 4) and tracking program metrics. Develop and maintain knowledgebase of clinically actionable oncology-specific mutations and matched targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and clinical trials to provide molecular consultations to partnered medical oncologists and research staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare high-quality scientific communications including reports, slide decks, manuscripts, and abstracts for both internal and external presentation
  • Prepare, schedule, and help facilitate Molecular Tumor Boards for multiple facilities at Sarah Cannon strategic sites
  • Analyze patient molecular profiles to identify potential targeted therapies, clinical trials, or contraindications
  • Assist in the identification of patients for molecularly-targeted clinical trials and coordinate with research sites for screening
  • Develop and foster relationships with physicians and research staff in order to provide scientific advice to advance Personalized Medicine
  • Provide molecular consultation to treating medical oncologists and research staff
  • Capture metrics for ongoing Personalized Medicine efforts including molecular profiles ordered and Molecular Tumor Board outcomes  
  • Use software to track consultation activities and report metrics monthly to leadership.
  • Respond to data queries regarding patient data from Research Sites using Genospace and other data sources
  • Facilitate implementation of Genospace at Research Sites.
  • Create and update presentations as needed
  • Complete projects in accordance with internally established timelines
  • Maintain file management and collaboration systems (e.g., SarahConnect portal)
  • Develop and maintain tools for tracking lists of open studies, study drugs, mechanisms of action, and tumor types accepted for Sarah Cannon clinical trials
  • Assist with editing and submitting manuscripts, abstracts, articles, and other publications as needed
  • Attend meetings as assigned and reports actions
  • Initiate improvements, tools, processes, and forms to enhance the efficiency and quality of work in Personalized Medicine
  • Participate in working groups and training development of Personalized Medicine staff
  • Participate in educational activities and programs
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality
  • Work closely and effectively with all inter- and intra-department colleagues
  • Assist other staff as requested and perform other related work as needed
  • Maintain positive and cooperative relationships in day-to-day interactions and communications


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Required: Master’s Degree (1-2 year program)
Preferred: Doctorate Degree
Minimum Required:
  • Prior experience in healthcare, research or other science related field
  • Must have a working understanding of cancer cell biology and cell signaling pathways
  • Must have a working knowledge of oncology-specific therapeutics and mechanisms of action
  • Must have an understanding of cancer genomics and sequencing technologies
  • Must have an understanding of clinical research process
  • Professional and medical writing and communicating skills required.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills required
  • Computer skills with ability using clinical trial databases, electronic data capture, MS Access or Excel.
  • Experience in scientific data capture and presentation
  • Clinical research experience in oncology
