Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is
a 257-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 200 of the most highly
respected and qualified physicians in the area. It is the only acute care
hospital in the TriCounty area that offers open
heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited
by the Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center. An affiliate of

Fort Walton offers a Cancer
Care Center that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. Fort
Walton Beach Medical Center also provides advanced care for critically ill
patients, including cardiovascular and trauma injury care, and emergency
services, including a main ER, Pediatric ER and Destin ER. Fort Walton Beach
Medical Center is in partnership with Twin Cities Hospital, located in
Niceville. We are also the parent company of the Rehabilitation Institute, both
located in Destin.
POSITION
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs a
variety of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET, and CT procedures
to include, administering radio-pharmaceuticals, operating department
equipment, developing and organizing radiographic film or digital data for
presentation to the radiologist.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
- Operates
PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine equipment to make images of designated
portions of body. Assists in
equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operation. Adjusts equipment
and patient to correct positions for each examination. Instructs and
explains procedures to patients. Selects proper technical factors, on an
individual patient basis.
- Ensures
that all exams are entered appropriately, makes edits as required, moves
exam to taken status and verifies for the radiologist to read with all
required documents.
- Closely
observes patients, performs first aid, as necessary, confers with
physician when requested exams appear at odds with the patient’s
condition, and generally, maintains an acute awareness of any patient
under his/her control.
- Ensures
that all exams are entered appropriately, makes edits as required, moves
exam to taken status and verifies for the radiologist to read with all
required documents.
- Maintains
adequate records of radioisotope receipts, use, storage, and disposal in
accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Receives
verbal orders for examinations from a responsible practitioner in keeping
with their state license.
- Demonstrates
Customer principles and behaviors appropriately.
- Keeps
current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic
nuclear medicine and PET/CT by completing TipTV, reading technical
journals, participating in in-service education programs, attending
conferences, etc.
- Assists
physicians in performance of examinations by preparation and
administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients under the direction of
a licensed physician, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile
procedures.
- Practices
sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Maintains orderliness
and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination free condition
of rooms, equipment and personnel.
- Reviews
the patient’s chart to obtain pertinent clinical history, correlative test
results, and laboratory data and documents this information for the
Radiologist.
- Adheres
to prescribed standards of Radiation Safety; participates in the Quality
Improvement and safety programs.
- Ensures
appropriate recording of hours worked, adhering to hospital policy.
- Actively
seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify
of care or the services delivered.
- Demonstrates
knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient
safety issues.
- Follows
established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or
unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care, which results in patient
harm.
- Attends
in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education
requirements on or before the due date.
- Uses
Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
- Regular,
punctual and dependable attendance.
- Works
and adjusts schedule as needed, including on call coverage to meet the
needs of the department.
- Other
duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
Must
have been either “grandfathered” by the state of Florida or passed with a
certificate from a Nuclear Medicine program accredited by the American
Registry of Radiological Technologists, or American Society of Registered
Technologists, and the American College of Radiologists
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Registered
in Nuclear Medicine by ARRT or NMTCB
PET
registry preferred
State
of Florida license required
BCLS–AHA
Healthcare Provider certification required upon hire
EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
At
least one year of full time experience in clinical PET/CT and Nuclear
Medicine imaging including didactic experience equivalent to the
curriculum recommended by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists
Associate
degree or equivalent in Radiology Technology or Nuclear Medicine
