Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, located on Florida's Emerald Coast, seeks a Surgery Analyst to join our Executive Team!

It is also the only acute care hospital in the area that offers open heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission, a Chest Pain Center and a Cancer Care Center that is affiliated with UAB and accredited by the Commission on Cancer.


The Perioperative Clinical Systems Analyst is responsible for assisting the Perioperative staff in the optimal use of the computer system applications. This includes coordinating integration of the perioperative systems with internal and external systems, as well as a liaison to other hospital departments including, but not limited to Finance, Supply Chain, Admitting, Infection Control, Risk Management, IT&S, and HIMS.  Responsible for, planning, coordinating and education of system applications, upgrades and updates.  Responsible for ensuring data integrity through periodic audits and reviewing/revising policies/procedures in the use of supplied system software.  Performs any other job related duties as requested by the Department Director.



  1. Assisting the Perioperative staff in the optimal use of the computer system
  2. Create and maintain all ORM dictionaries, forms, queries and responses related to OR documentation and billing. 
  3. Responsible for the integrity of the OR module in both test and live for surgical or procedural documentation/scheduling.
  4. Responsible for the surgical revenue cycle; completes billing/charging on a daily basis, creating supply Item Add requests and reconciling ancillary charge reports. (ref.Stark)
  5. Produces cost reports and revenue reports for end-of-month reporting (PLUS)
  6. Create and maintain all teaching materials for surgical and/or procedural employees.  (ex. Same Day, OR, PACU, Endo, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, L&D surgical staff, etc.)
  7. Creates and/or maintains Surgical menus for all perioperative staff; sets up PIN numbers
  8. Creates and/or maintains standard HCA Meditech ORM CDS screens
  9. Trains new employees on the use of the Perioperative module.  Informs all involved staff and management of changes to the system and teach as needed
  10. Supports hospital staff as requested and coordinates with other departments needs as they interface to OR/PACU nursing/scheduling documentation, (i.e. Admitting, Revenue Integrity, Supply Chain etc.)
  11. Works with IT & S staff to coordinate the installation of the computer system for OR documentation in new or reorganized departments of surgical services.  Assists Information Services in the coordination of hardware issues and troubleshooting for Surgical Services
  12. Creates NPR and department reports to provide statistics/data for Administration, QI/QM, Finance, Surgical Service, Special Projects.
  13. In conjunction with the appropriate OR Director/Manager, and Management engineer participates in the PI/QI program for Surgical Services departments.  Attends market meetings/Corporate meetings regarding OR module
  14. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
  15. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system.  Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
  16. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
  17. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
  18. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  19. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
  20. Other duties as assigned.



  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in medical field required
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Informatics or a minimum 2 years experience implementing or managing OR scheduling/documentation systems preferred 


  • None required 


  • Advanced computer skills
  • Previous circulator, scrub tech, nurse educator in the OR, or experience  with the MEDITECH system preferred
  • Perioperative RN or scrub tech for a minimum of 3 years preferred
  • Will attend HCA ORM University for complete training in HCA related IT systems; Meditech, SMART and HOST 


  • Responsible for the surgical revenue cycle; completes billing/charging on a daily basis, creating supply Item Add requests and reconciling ancillary charge reports
  • Strong planning, analytical and written skills
  • Demonstrated competence with patient care information systems, preferably MEDITECH.
  • Basic understanding and ability to utilize the nursing process
  • Ability to educate staff using adult learning principles.
